Hi everyone. I have a problem that just started on my way to work today.(8/4/05). heavy smoke comes out of the exhaust of this car specially when I step on the accelerater. I really dont know much about cars, I have a lot of interest in knowing more and more, but need a lot of help in knowing what is wrong with this car, so that I may fix it. I see some sort of oil on the exhaust pipe (if this helps).

I believe that if it is white smoke it's burning oil. I don't know much about how to fix it, but osborste's ideas sound right.
