air pumper

I have a 1981 Chevy malibu 3.8 v6 with a cracked air pump line and was curious if it's possible to eliminate this whole setup maybe by plugging the exhaust manifolds and a few other lines?will it work?I seem to have a very high engine rpm at idle and drive not sure if this hose is causing the problem?
