HI GUYS WONDER IF YA CAN HELP BOUGHT A ACCENT 1.3I
THE BRAKES ARE SOFT AND CAR PULLING TO ONE SIDE ALSO
THE STEERING WHEEL SEEMS SOLID TO TURN THERES NO POWER STEERING THE CAR WAS
LYING FOR 8 MONTHS AND THE BRAKES WHERE SIEZED ON ANY HELP APPRECIATED
IS THERE ANYWAY TO MAKE THE STEERING LIGHTER OR CAN IT BE CONVERTED TO
POWER STEERING FOR CHEAP AM IN GLASGOW
can anyone help ???
THANKS GUYS
brithepi2k
WHY ARE YOU SHOUTING?
From experience I recall the steering being on the heavy side on those
cars, especialy without Power Steering. Small things like underinflated
tyres could cause heavier than usual steering though, so I suggest you
check they are correctly inflated. A soft brake pedal could be a few
things. As the car nhas been standing for a few months I guess it could be
a perrished brake hose that finally started to split/leak under the
pressure. Or it could just be air in the system that needs bleeding
out...Or maybe it's normal for this car, but it just feels different? Check
the obvious things first, such as the brake fluid level. If the level's ok,
check for any leaks.
Cliffy
hi m8 sorry for caps am new here cool i got all that sorted mate was air in
system and fluid was low no leaks can u tell me how to check a ball joint
do i jack it up on the wishbone when i go over a hole in the road it clunks
drivers side and when i turn full lock theres like a rubbing noise
passenger side onlty make the noise on full lock
thanks guys
brithepi2k
There are a couple of ways to check the ball joints. What they do in an MoT
test is jack the front end up and place a long lever bar under the tyre and
move it up and down. This will or should, make it easy to detect play in
the joint. You could just jact the car up and move the wheel with your
hands in the same way, but doing it this way round, you could miss-diagnose
the problem (could take play in the wheel bearing for a worn ball joint). I
am finding it quite hard to understand you due to your lack of punctuation,
especially regarding the last part of your post. You say there's a rubbing
sound on full lock? If so, it could be something as simple as the plastic
wheelarch cover rubbing against the tyre as you steer. If this is the case
you might just need to resecure it.
Cliffy
i was thinking it was the driveshaft maybe wot i do know the black plastic
guard in wheel arch isnt seated back correctly i got the car for peanuts
but bodywise and engine wise it runs like a dream u maybe righ t about
wheel guard m8 i will investigate it
cheers :)
brithepi2k
Could quite easily be a driveshaft rubbing against a similar plastic
componant...
Cliffy
all in all i think your a smart cookie lol
am gonna attempt timing belt i have auto data
looks and sounds easy to do theres always a first for everything :)
brithepi2k
Hey, less of the ccokie! lol....jk
If you feel confident doing the timing belt, go for it, but make sure you
have the right tools!...Also, it helps if you have a freind "in the trade"
who's available to bail you out if you get it wrong! :wink2:
Good Luck!
Cliffy
Well well well, the first member of the Cliffy fan club:mrgreen:
dvdrose18
well all i need to know is to turn the crank shaft wheel to set the timing
marks before i take belt off do i turn it with the crankshaft bolt or rock
car back and forth lol
:banghead:
brithepi2k
lol....I guess you kind of have the theory right (if a tad sketchy....),
but in practice these things have a habit of going ever so slightly
wrong...
I have other members, they're just mostly female and don't want to be made
public...:badrazz:
Cliffy
well well well he sounds clever lol
no way am gonna pay £100 to get a timing belt put on
if i don't try i will never learn i guess
brithepi2k
LOL
all i know is i take spark plugs out and stuff but i was just wondering how
to turn the crankshaft with the belt on no special tools needed according
to auto data for ma car
thanks mate
brithepi2k
so far so good i managed the discs and pads
am kinda clever
brithepi2k
Jack the car up and turn it with a spanner or socket & ratchet...Yeah,
discs and pads today, timing belt tomorrow..there's just no stopping you!
Cliffy
some dude told me the timing should be ok as is
just to loosen tensioner bolts take belt off and new belt on and set
tension
no need to reset the timing marks is that true ??
lmao
brithepi2k
The timing will...Or should be, ok, however, the whole idea of lining the
marks up is because once the belt is removed, unless you have a
photographic memory or something, you won't remember where the pulleys
were, and thus where the markings on them were, in relation to one another.
If both marks are aligned, (the pulley marking inline with that of that
marking on the block...Or the equivalent) you know you're in exactly the
right place. Hope that made sense, lol.
Cliffy
makes a lot of sense lol
am scared to try it out now
brithepi2k
It actually makes sense? Or was there sarcasm in your last post somewhere?
Cliffy
no sarcasm mate am just scared cause the bottom cover says TDC on it
with a few different marks on like lines but i dunno what line i set the
pulley wheel to so i think i will just need to scrap the idea hehe
brithepi2k
You can mark the pulley yourself to make an existing mark clearer if you
prefer...Or to make your own mark. As long as they stay lined up and YOU
know what's what, you should be ok!....Don't you sleep? I though I was a
night owl, lol!
By the way, TDC is Top Dead Centre, incase you were unsure....
Cliffy
lol no m8 i hardly sleep cuz of this pile of junk of a car i have
can a bottom ball joint on control arm be popped out using a hammer or do i
need a fork aswell m8 ?
i ordered a new arm was just wondering when i fit new arm
would i only need to bolt the thing up or will i need compress ball joint
into the hole cheers
brithepi2k
would a crow bar pop it out or do i need to buy a fork tool ?
i need change the wishbone
thanks
brithepi2k
is there a way to get wishbone ball joint disconnected without a ball joint
tool
will a crow bar work ?
cheers
brithepi2k
Making sure the timing marks on both pulleys are perfectly aligned w #1 cyl
@ TDC is the most important part of installing a timing belt
tbaxleyjr
Some ball joinjts pop out easier than others, you may need to use a
splitter (fork), yes. It's far easier to use a splitter in the first place
though...
Cliffy

hi m8 but onth bottom plastic cover is says tdc but theres about 5 or 6
lines on it so how would i know what mark is tdc lol
will there be a timing mark behind the crankshaft cover on the enginne ?
brithepi2k
There will be one mark on the crank chaft pulley (inside the timing case)
and one on the camshaft pulley (inside the timing case) The two must be
aligned perfectly to ensure proper valve timing when the new belt is
installed
When setting static ignition timing (using a timing light during a
maintenance tune-up) there will be a notch on the crankshaft pulley
(outside the timing case) which will line up with the specified timing
mark. TDC will usually be labeled T, TDC or 0. The notch lining up with
0 should put #1 cyl @ TDC when the distributor rotor is @ #1 cylinder.
I would strongly recommend obtaining a shop manual (Haynes, Chiltons,
Motor, Hyundai factory manual, etc) and read it carefully before
undertaking this job. Much of this information is described in depth and
usually, there are pictures and illustrations to make it easier to
understand
tbaxleyjr
thanks alot i dowloaded auto data that has all the info and pics for my car
and today i saved myself £75
i managed to get wishone arm off and new one on i used a 4lb hammer and
just kept smashing the ball joint
thanks for the help guys
brithepi2k
No probs, thanks for returning!...
Cliffy
hi again guys i need a C.V. joint so i phoned the car acceseorie shop up
they took my reg number but they asked if ma car was ABS brakes how would i
know they said only way to know is strip cv apart a job i never done before
i was putting it in a garage to get it done thaks if anyone can help me
it has no pwering steering so surely no abs either ??
cheers
brithepi2k
There's probably no ABS, however, you should be able to see/feel the sensor
and/or toothed ring behind either of the front wheels....Where the CV joint
meets the hub! (see picture)
http://www.ukcar.com/features/tech/others/Anti-Lock-Brakes/ABS-hub.jpg
Cliffy
no i don't have anything like that mate
question if i tried to fit myself to save more money would i need to rip
the driveshaft out ??
 is that you doing your NIGHTHAWK again lmao
i added u in my msn but i don't see u :)
brithepi2k
NIGHTHAWK?
I assume you're the person I've just accepted, lol. Chances are the drive
shaft will come out anyway, and if it doesn't, you shouldn't need to remove
it, just so long as you unbolt the hub you'll be ok!
Cliffy
no m8 wasn't me u accepted ur still showing offline on msn
brithepi2k
Yeah....I'm appearing off line, but I accepted your request. You'll
probably be notified when I'm back 'online' :wink2:
Cliffy
playing hide N seek from me incase i ask u to many questions about cars
lmao
brithepi2k
To be honest I'm raely appearing online these days...Dunno why, lol.
Anyway, time for bed. Good luck with the car! I will appear online next
time, just in case, lol!
Cliffy
goodnight m8
am gone to be maself done to much research tonight
brithepi2k
hi guys am just about to rock and roll soon in this car

but i can't seem to pull it off do i need to take the axle nut off to ?
thanks
brithepi2k
