Hi, My names Pat. New to this forum and hoping i can get a little help,
thank you.
I have 2 problems. To start off with, I have a 1993 Ford Escort LX wagon
1.9, Manual shift 5 Speed transmission. I was getting between 34 & 40 MPG
and the number 1 problem has dropped it to 29 to 32 MPG. Gotta get it back
up again with the price of gas going up as it is.
1. After the car is warmed up, every time I stop it sounds like the motor
is racing for a while then goes back to idle?
2. 50 to 75 miles after filling my tank the gauge reads 1/2, stays that way
until I have about 225 miles , then it drops to 1/4, until I have 320 to
340 miles, then it goes down at a normal rate until I gas up again then it
starts over again. I'm guessing that i need a new fuel sending gauge.
How do I go about doing these repairs? Is it a big job? Will I run into
any problems? Or am I opening Pandora's Box?
I thank you again, any help will be greatly appreciated. :ohcrap:

fuel economy - when was the last time you did a maintenance tune-up (plugs,
dist cap/rotor, wires, fuel filter, air filter, pcv valve, verify static
ignition timing, verify ignition system operates at a high enough voltage,
etc.) Also check for fuel leaks, etc
1. Trouble codes?
2. Possible float or linkage hang-up in fuel gage sending unit located in
fuel tank. Most likely, repair/replacing the sending unit means dropping
the fuel tank.
