I have a 2002 Buick Lesabre with approx: 75K miles on it. I have a grinding
noise come from the rear brakes. I have replaced the rear rotors and pads
on both sides 3 times all within month's time and the noise is still there.
I bought and replaced them thinking I received bad parts. The rotors I
bought are new, no scratches other than the "cross hatching" performed
while they were machined at the factory. The brake pads are Rebestos(sp?),
which I have bought all my life. They are installed correctly, because I am
old fashioned and was taught to take one side off, leave other side on so
you can see how it is installed. The struts are fine, the car does not pull
, or dip in the front or back. It has a Self Leveling Suspension System.
When you start the car, you can hear it leveling. My wife says she has not
heard this in awhile. It stops fine, but it sounds like metal to metal
grinding. It is not constant, just when the brakes are applied. Anyone have
any ideas what this could be?

Does it do it every time the brakes are applied, or just for the first
couple miles, because on our Chevy Venture the brakes will grind like crazy
for the first few times you stop, but after that they were quiet. I always
assumed it was because the brakes rusted really quickly. It seems like
newer brakes rust really quickly because of the newer materials they are
using.

Thanks for your reply so soon.:)
No it does not do it all the time, but once it starts it continues and
seems to get louder. These are new rotors and pads. It did not make the
noise for 2 days before starting the noise again.

Yeah rusting fairly quickly can be a problem...You might want to get it
checked out by the person who put the new rotors and pads on...

Well I'm not sure but if it's not the brakes rusting it could possibly be a
bad bushing in the caliper. Unlikely but possible.
