For full features; Go to New Car: Brakes Make a Sound
Hi everyone:
So, I just bought a 2008 Pontiac G8 GT this past Wednesday. Two days
later, I'm driving down a hill and when I apply my brakes, I hear a
squealing sound. The sound seemed to come from the rear passenger-side.
I freaked out because I only had the car for 2 days. So I drove around
some more tried applying the brakes in various ways: softly, relatively
hard, etc.
I was unable to reproduce the squealing. I just let it be thinking, "may-be
it wasn't me."
Then 2 days later on Sunday, I was backing down my driveway and again heard
my brakes make a sound. For sure it was me, my girlfriend even heard.
Should I contact the dealer immediately and have them inspect my brakes? I
realize some websites say "brakes just squeal" but these brakes are brand
spanking new, on a new vehicle as well.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thank you,

because you said it is a brand new car, and because it seems as though it
only does it when you aply the brakes the first time, I suspect it is just
because the brakes rust a little while your car is sitting. then when you
step on the brakes, the rust is scraped off, giving a gritty/squealing
sound. It seems like different makes/models are more prone to this, as well
as different brands of replacements, probably depending on the material
they are made from. If this is the case, it is not something to realy worry
about, but it might not hurt to bring it back to the dealed and have them
take a little look.
PS. Nice choice for a new car:thumbs:
PPS. If you hang around others might give their :2cents:
PPPS. Welcome! and stick around, you might like it here.

Thank you for the quick response. I definitely plan on sticking around. I
know a little about cars but not too much. Now I'm paranoid about
everything with my car and have been reading up on everything I can. The
more I can learn, the better.
Thanks again,

New car = warranty = better safe than sorry. If it continues, take it in.
It's all well and good to say "new cars squeak", but if yours is one that
has a problem, you want it fixed while it's shiny, new and free.

If the squeaking does not stop after a couple of hundred miles (allow the
pads to seat with the rotor) let the dealer service department check it
out.
G-6 is a nice car. Hope you enjoy it and good luck.
