I have a 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Because of the squeaking noise we bring
it to the dealer 3 weeks ago, and they change both the drivers’ belt.
Yesterday morning when I turned on the engine I heard a rattling sound in
front of the car and was exchange by a flapping/clapping sound then was
gone after I left it running for like 5min, so I went to work. On my way
home, halfway I heard a grinding sound like something goes around my wheels
then the steering wheel stop working. My friend check what happened and it
turned out the belt come-off and when he pull it out, it’s like a spaghetti
belt. So he change the belt, then everything was okay, the steering wheel
works, the a/c works. Now this morning when I turned on the engine, there’s
this flapping/clapping sound again. I waited 5 min and it was gone so I
drove to work again…
I wonder what it could be. Does anyone here know what was wrong?

I'm guessing an improperly set up belt tensioner, or just a broken
tensioner. Could possibly be a pulley, but I'm highly suspicious of the
tensioner.
