Lebaron Tranny problems

i have a 1990 chrysler lebaron a v6 3.0 liter with a automatic transmission. well here is the thing it wont go it to reverse a mecnic told me it might be the tranny filter but it do go in reverse if i drop my foot to the floor when it is sitting in reverse. i ether do a 180 (if the wheel is turned ) or i spin my tires if the wheel isnt. so what do u think transmission filter or a bigger problem like the whole transmission.
