Hi, I have just bought a spitfire to restore : the engine looks OK but hasn't been turned over for a few years, anybody got some advice before I give it a shot? Got a new battery, there is oil the radiator is topped up any thing else like siezed parts to be wary of?

Hi, If the car has set for a long time I would say put about a half oz of oil in each cly first and then pull off coil wire and turn it over a few times so bearings and pistons get lubed first then reconnect coil wire and fire it up. It will smoke a little at first but thats better than fireing up dry. sounds like a good project. Have fun Slim :screwy:

Good suggestion Slimone.

I would also add to drain out the old gas and put some fresh stuff in. Might want to change the fuel filter also.

Before you drive it though, make sure your brakes are working enough to get the car to stop.

Good luck.
