Nobody said that synthetic oil caused leaks...simply that, with Mobil 1, if you already have seals that are weeping, it will be more noticable...due to the higher lubricity.

If I'm not mistaken, the civics use a caliper bracket that the pads ride on...I would recommend new hardware for those brackets, shouldn't cost more than a few dollars, and get a silicone based...
