Yup, in 1849 I believe, where would we be without the good 'ol Swedish cars lol. I'm not Volvo or Saab's greatest fan but you cant fault the safety of these cars...They were also and probably still are made of strengthend materials too, to withstand harsh weather conditions, okay if your the driver of one, not so okay if your in an accident with one though I guess lol!

Milestones in pre-automotive history. The seatbelt was invented in 1849. Must have been for the Swedish horse and buggy.

Well uh, no and they don't either. I won't pretend to know exactly who, what, when or how the seatbelt was invented but... They were in use as early as the 1930's in the US. First installed by doctors who thought they would make driving safer.

However Volvo is credited, at least within their own literature, as having invented the 3-point safety belt. I think you could find more than a few people who would dispute that fact. Again I won't pretend to know for sure but I feel they're using a very narrow definition to make that claim.

Agreed. I was simply using their word which was "invented".

Sorry.. but volvos may be safe and all, but they have Very poor performance and repair records. a common misconception, just because they made a safe car, doesnt mean its gunna work good, even check out the auto consumerguides... neway... my sister has a 98 saab 900 turbo and i think it kicks ass.

The only cars for model year 2004 to receive perfect ratings by the U.S. Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS):
only eight cars scored perfect in every category and test last year

1)Audi A4
2)Ford Crown Victoria
3)Mercury Grand Marquis
3)Mercury Marauder
4)Lincoln Town Car
5)Volkswagen New Beetle
6)Volvo S80
7)Toyota Corolla
8)(Forbes says there are eight, but I only count seven) <shrugs>

http://www.forbes.com/lifestyle/2004..._0608feat.html

hmm... no Saabs...
Oh, and what's that? Ford looks to be the safest company with it's large platform cars and Volvo all up there...

OMG!!Can you please split up your bullshit sentences! Also stop with the stupid "lol".I also use the slang sometimes, but you use it in every sentence, and who cares about how your dad drives. He's just proving that he has no imagination and whenever he gets into a car he goes for his death sentence!
