Here is my on that topic. When someone comes in here asking/demanding help, most often in the R&M forum, I feel it's EXTREMELY rude to not intruduce yourself first. After all you wouldn't waltz into a room full of strangers and blurt out your problem and expect help. In my opinion this is different, more like being at a party and walking up to someone and starting a conversation. This is friendly, the other is just bad manners. So...

I think there's as many different reasons as there are car buyers. Even a single person who owns several cars has different reasons for each car depending on their intended use.

Basically mine boil down to two different categories. First is something I need for a specific funtion such as a family sedan or work vehicle. Those criteria are pretty rigid and obvious even to an outsider. The second is something I want. The only real criteria for that type of vehicle is it has to float my boat, simple as that. Excellent question.

good point vwhobo...

and to not be a total asshole and not answer the question, i agree with vwhobo as well.

if i hypothetically had infinite $$ (yeah, right) i would probably limit myself to 4 or 5 cars -

1st: for the wife (ladies first). maybe a sedan like a 5-series or something. maybe a minivan

2nd: my everyday. possibly a small/medium sized SUV or sedan. X5ish or that new TL. thats hot.

3rd: GT/Sports Car. so many out there. depends what there is. as of now maybe a G35 Coupe or something.

4th: Car for the kid: something economical and will last forever. maybe a CR-V or something.

5th: Classic Car. oooh so much to choose from.

Infinite cash flow and those are your choices?

I highly doubt it!

Why? I could hit the lottery tonight for $300,000,000 and when I went to collect the check my choice of transport would still be a 40ish year old VW. Don't forget, SJ is a good Jewish (code word for cheap-ass) boy.

I made a point about peoples choices in this thread what is your dream car list? top 5 A lot of people don't get it when I'm trying to be subtle though... a bit like you BavarianWheels when I made that penis remark, which was the equivelent to your favourite, "my Dad can beat up your Dad".

I can see why Superjew instigated this theme but now this whole thread's gone off topic.

Could it be possible that 97MaxSE started this thread while working for a car company and intended this topic to be like a survey/questionaire for them to get information from?

Are you going to add anything to this conversation, or just be a weenie? Let's hear Car Guy articulate his considered position on this subject.
