Best Sleeper...

In your opinion what car is the best sleeper around. The car that no one expects to see at a drag strip?

Sorta like vwhobo's Vids of VW Beetles... I never expected that out of those little cars. (Not to drift to far off topic) What exactly have they done to give that car so much power? Have they swaped in a small block or what?

My vote goes to they Astro/Safari Mini Vans...

A eleven second soccer mom van, Never would have expected that either!

Anything dog slow in stock form that doesn't have a history in racing circles of being fast.

YOu may not have expected it, but you aren't going to see too many of them allowed in musclecar drag racing events or import racing events, as drag bugs have been going seriously fast since the late '60s, with air cooled Bug engines.

I found it amusing back in the mid '90s when the Import Drags started really catching on. Magazines would spend pages discussing the 11-12 second Civics, and 10-11 second Supras, and would print one sentence somwhere at the bottom next to a tiny picture: "And here's Chris Bubbetz's VW Bug pulling a low 9 second pass." Yeah, can't have all those modern megabuck imports being bested by a 4 cyl pushrod engine in a 30+ year old car...

I'd like to see someone shoehorn a V8 into a 5th generation Accord, but that's just me.

Just about any car you see everyday can be a great sleeper.

Turbo Caravan.

Some people know they can be pretty quick when modded, some have not a clue...

I actually saw an exhaust modded Mustang GT (96-98 4.6L model) line up with a turbo Caravan and it was really funny. Mustang ran a 14.7 and the turbo Caravan did a 13.9. Talked to the Mustang driver after the race and he said this...

"When I lined up against him I laughed knowing it was old four banger van, then after I saw his taillights after the 330' mark I nearly SH*T in my pants"

^^^^

That's what a sleeper is all about.

My moms 1998 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi is definatly a sleeper. Last summer it ran a 13 flat at the drag strip.

5% smaller supercharger pulley, hollowed out cats., and an ECU tune. Shes a beast, and you wouldnt even expect it. Its so much fun lining up against a Z28 or SS Camaro, or a Mustang GT and just walking 'em.

13 flat or 14 flat?

A stock one does in the high 14s. With those mods I can see a 14 flat possible...but 13 flat would take a helluva lot more.

It was close to a 13 flat. I just rounded from 13.16. That was with traction control, perform shift, and perform ride on. Slicks on the front too.

Now, back to the topic...

My 2nd cousin (my dads cousin) bought a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Brougham from a guy at the dragstrip after the guy got up to the line and broke an axle. The guy said "**** it, Im done with this piece of shit, Ive dumped too much money into it." So he sold it to my cousin for $3000. When he got it, it needed a paint job pretty bad and some other bodywork.

So, now my cousin is selling this car on eBay. I think its a great sleeper. It looks like the kind of car you would laugh at when you get up next to it. Its got a 468 Chevy big block in it. My cousin says that it will run mid 10's. Its damn nice. If any of you guys want to bid on it, let me know.

Im pretty sure it isnt But it does look somewhat stock on the outside with the exception of the hood and drag radials.
