New car, 5,6,7k need advice

Alright i'm in the market for a new sports car to reward myself for graduating high school and getting accepted to the college i wanted. So i'm saving up my cash and i figure i'll have 5-7k for a car this summer. I want something sporty, but not something a lot of other people have. I've been looking at datsun 240z's but they're kind of rusty and i wouldn't feel safe driving it home. I'll take a non classic to though, anything thats unique, is in my range, and is nice looking. Any suggestions?

heres what i've been looking at:

240z
mustang (years 1999 and on)
Mitsubishi 3000gt
Firebird (any non-80s look)
opel gt
MG midget

here's what i dont want:
anything honda/acura (good cars but not what i wan't)
anything chevy (stupid bias i have)

nothing is too exotic, i'll take any suggestion, thanks.

I think a Nissan 300ZX meets your criteria. Maybe an RX7 as well?

I like the 300zx, its a great looking car. But its my brothers favorite car and he's wanted one for years. I can't steal his thunder.

Good idea though.

rx-7 would be cool. Wenkel could be an issue

VW Corrado VR6 fills your criteria. You can find a really nice one for that much money.

ha, i know that, but I don;t like the chevy brand for some reason. I've got a huge thing against them and i dont know why.

i'm now thinking porsche 944.

corrado looks nice too actually, i'll add that to my list.
