1990 Chevy Lumina stalling problem

Hey, I have a 1990 Chevy Lumina, about 144,220 miles, 6 cylinder, automatic transmission, and a lot of times at stop lights or stop signs when I stop and leave it idling for more than a second or two it just stalls. It doesn't happen all the time, but a little more than half of the time. I was told that it may be a problem with the transmission, and just to approach lights slower, but this has made little difference. It always happens after I fill up the gas tank. I just got a new exhaust system put in. I've been told it could be a million different things, but I thought I might ask you guys and get as many opinions as possible. Thanks a lot.

Yeah, you never know when you could have your gear ratios go bad...

stalling lumina

I have a 1991 lumina that did the same thing. The mechanic tried everything and nothing worked. Finally a guy told me to do the tap test. Leave the car running and tap on the box where the computer brain is, if it dies you will need to replace the brain. That is what the problem was and I have never had that problem again. It has 186,000 miles on it and running like a champ.
