Ford vs. Ferrari

Ford is tryng again. They have brought back the GT40 to compete once again with Ferrari, only this time not on the track, but on the market. What do y'all make of this? Good idea or Bad idea?

well, i love ford and everything but i think ferarri will stay on top between the two because nobody wants to pay $100,000 for a domestic car. if you are gonna pay 100 grand then ur gonna want a luxurious european car. thats all there is to it. and the thing that really makes it even worse is the GT is that it's turbo charged (or is it super charged? i'm not sure but its one of the two) and all the cars its competing with are normally asperated.

I have to disagree. The Ford GT is a very good performer, and Supercharging can actually help to flatten out the power curves. MT estimates performance figures of:

0-60: 3.7 Seconds
1/4 Mile: 11.7 @ 122
Braking 60-0: 100 Feet
600FT - Slalom: 71 mph
Top Speed: 195 Mph

Now, the estimated price is $150,000, but you really are getting what you paid for. I think that you'll find the Ford GT will compare favorably to the Ferrari Modena or the Lamborghini Gallardo.

Wow, a thread thats almost a year and a half old...but its a good one so:

The ford GT is an amazing car, so is the 360 modena (the car the GT has its sights on). But my money would go to the GT. For some reason when I compare the two, the GT just looks like a better car. It looks like a car that has ungodly amounts of engineering and hard work put into it. The Modena on the other hand, looks like a car that was amazing then dumbed down.

The modena, to me, feels like a car Ferrari made as an afterthought. Like they made all they're supercars, were happy, then realized they needed a cheaper car to keep the company availble to a slightly lower class then their average buyer. So the Modena, in my eyes, is the crappiest ferrari you can get. Meanwhile, the GT is the absolute best ford you can get.

But then again the best saturn you can get is a peice of crap compared to the best chevy... so maybe I have some faulty logic going.

So I don't know if thats a good reason to prefer one car over another, but that's my reason...

Mustangs and Fast Fords magazine got John Coletti to let them thrash on a new GT40, and with just a pulley change on the supercharger, and an alignment, they got the car to run 10s in the quarter mile in basically stock form. Considering that the pulley change ups teh power, and no gearing was changed, that means that they probaby increased top speed a similar percentage...

Not bad for under $200 investment in an otherwise stock car. Z06 what?
