another what should I get thread? with a slight difference.

Hey yes you got it, another of those "what should I get" ones.

I have some different criteria though...
The vehicle has to be at least 20 years old!!! otherwise I gotta pay $20,000 having the damn thing converted from left hand drive!!

It has to be something that catches the eye here in New Zealand.
It has to be a decent car that will not give me heaps of trouble when I come to comply it, (vehicle registry that check the car is fully road worthy before giving it the vin number).

I assume that an old truck with a good v8 should be reliable and as I sell wheels would fit most any wheel I choose to put on.

Oh yeah, because I sell wheels it needs to be somewhat practical for transporting wheels around, which is why I'm leaning towards a truck. sierra, jimmy, f150, ect.

Lastly I don't wanna spend much more than $4000-$5000 as I still have to spend $5000nzd on importing, complying and sign writing.

Am I being totaly unrealistic?? I have seen a couple of trucks on ebay which look good and even some with decent lifts for around the money I wanna spend, but don't know if I'm looking at the "too good to be true" range out there?

So, anyone got an opinion there care to share on this for me???

Where should I look?

Who should I employ to inspect prior to purchase?

what should I expect to pay for what I want??

Help wanted.

Thanks

are you willing to do some work on it, or does it need to be running from the get go?

what about an old mustang or something?

If its kinda be like a truck or something that can carry stuff around then i'd say Chevrolet El Camino or Ford Ranchero.

yeah I would like it to be running and preety much be a workable vehicle. I do like the old el camino though, but there are actually a few here.

It's quite a well liked car so it's one of the ones that got imported quite alot when the import doors where open years ago.

You could always go for an old 2 door wagon or maybe a classic (50's) Chevy or Ford truck or Panel Wagon, they all have space to carry things.

yea i agree with car crazy go for a ranchero or el camino. el caminos are nice but you said they have a few there. so go for the ranchero gt man. like a early 70s. you can get them with the mach 1 hood scoops and they look pretty decent. if not look into any pre 1985 truck ford, dodge, chevy there all good. but chevy would be a good choice due to availability and cheapness of parts
