... this is how all the other flame wars start.

"I'm not flaming, it's just that his post was pointless - meanwhile I'll post a pointless post saying that his post is pointless"

C'mon guys, I'm not trying to get involved, but just chill out. Sure, disagree and argue when it's on topic, but don't make with the silly, petty arguments about nothing.

I'm trying my best, windsonian, but the entire starting point of this flame war is that TheSpecialist copied and pasted info and took it as his own. That's not acceptable. I pointed it out and now he's failing to try and hand me my ass. I'll try to keep my posts to the point, but TheSpecailist needs to learn not to copy and paste without citing the source.

Antagonizing me is going to do nothing for you.

Bravo Now if theSpecialist has to make a "smart" retort, then it will be seen that he is the antagonist.

.... on the other hand, if he doesn't, then and we can all get on with arguing about cars.

Its better to make peak torque at high RPM than at low RPM right? Can anyone kinda clarify this and add more on where the torque should be?

It's a bit of a weird concept, but in a perfectly efficient engine, the torque should be flat across the entire rev range, simply meaning that the power increases as the speed increases.

However, as we know, this doesn't happen.

If you have high torque at low revs, then you can get good acceleration from the bottom of the range (ie. off the line), but then you'll need to change gears at lower revs to keep within the lower part of the range for more acceleration in your next gear. Alternatively, if you've got more torque at high revs, you'll want to keep the revs higher during gear changes.

Efficiency in power transmission can be achieved in either case by the gearbox. If you had the first engine, you could have longer gear ratios, and shorter if you had the high rev-torque engine. The shorter ratios would ensure that you get through the low end quickly and up into the torquey part of the range for better acceleration.

Just look at big V8's vs rotaries. The V8 has plenty of torque, so you can keep it at relatively low revs, but the rotary has minimal torque, so you run it at much higher revs and use the gearbox to bring the speed down while keeping the car in the higher range, thus getting more torque to the wheels.

so my ford escort would be (105 * 2 + nothing) = 210 horsepower.

So then my Impreza has 280 hp??

If you read back further there was a joke about something like "take the rated power of the car, multiply by 2 and at 20hP for each mod including stickers and stuff".

It was funny at the time.
