83 Plymouth Turismo

Hey all, my name is Victor and i am 17. A while ago i had a old plymouth turismo, and this is when i didnt have me license, so another family member was driving it. All i remember is the head gasket needed replacement(which i can do now) and somebody also put sugar in the tank and its been jus sitting around, and i thought what the hell might as well have some fun.

Ok what I need to know is, what parts would i have to replace and or fix to get her running again? All i know is i already have to get a new gas tank, and the fuel filter will need to be replaced, spark plugs....and the carberator will need to be cleaned.

Please add to this, and/or correct it. Thanks everyone

your on the right track if the tank is in good condition then just flush it out after you drain the gas and let it air out for a day to evaparate the rest
you will need to clean the carb flush the lines/drain replace fuel filter

any idea how much the engine ran with sugar in the tank?
always thought this would ruin the engine i've never seen it only heard about this stuff happening

Rofl Water, Mos Def Do Not Use Water!!!! Use Carb Cleaner Spray. And U Usually Do It While Its Running, But U Can Do It Off Too. Only Problem Is By Doing It Off, Ur Risking The Chance Of Flooding The Carb.

I wonder how long it took this person to type that. It Took Me 25 Seconds To Just Type This Sentence. My goodness...

Oh and duh, water wont hurt the carb as long as its off the engine, just make sure you dry it out very well so as the carb wont build up rust or anything (depending on how long it will sit)

thank you for the replys.....i guess imma use the carberator cleaner....imma have to jus turn it around and stuff to pour out the cleaner stuff

so i only have to change the gas tank, and fuel filter and lines, and/or clean the lines.....and clean the carberator and the engine should start running?
hopefully i get a quick reply to this

thank you

I wouldnt see why it wouldnt...I have never seen what sugar does to the engine, but maybe it could eat the diaphram on the fuel pump, so it may need replaced. As long as the sugar didnt harm any internals (valves, pistons, bores) then i dont see why it wont start.

Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Um....I thought you said the head gasket was bad?? If it is I wouldnt bother trying to get it to run until its fixed, because your engine isnt going to run very well (or at all) on a bad head gasket. but if you are going to change the head gasket, check the bores and your pistons, valves, etc. for damage from the sugar(?) Who puts sugar in a gas tank anyways, maybe as a octane booster? lol j/k

depending on how bad the head gaskets gone you should be able to get it to run/start up/stumble/etc
as for the gas in a bottle it will work if the engine has a mechanical fuel pump
or hook up an electric if need be
