Do you younglings remember the days when premium gas was $.90/gallon (makes me feel kinda old). I'm sure most of the older members remember.

I remember $.32/gal. I started buying more efficient (but US) cars at $.41/gal.

But I'd rather pay $2.50/gal. than live in "V".

What about bottled water? Most of it costs more than gasoline.

Tragically I remember that even two years ago gas prices where sitting at $1.80.

Two years! And in that short time it's skyrocketed up well over a dollar per gallon.

Wow. You know, as great as that sounds and as much as I don't like over the edge environmentalists, it's obvious you gave that about two seconds of thought before you typed it and hit submit. First off, anyone who is even remotely aware of world politics understands that gas prices being cranked down that low in Venezuela is a game being played by Hugo Chavez specifically to elicit uneducated responses like yours.

Secondly, Venezuela has a huge amount of petroleum reserves. They are ranked 7th or 8th in the world depending upon who's numbers you believe. None the less, everyone agrees that they have about 77 billion barrels in reserve. One last factor you need to add in is that they have a population of just over 25 million. That's 20% less than California alone.

Now, the US has reserves of 22 billion barrels of oil, again depending on who's numbers you believe, but we have a population of almost 300 million. So you do the math. We don't have as much oil per capita as they do, we don't have a government run and controlled oil industry like they do and we are fortunate enough to live in a capitalist society instead of a socialist one. If you're willing to give up all the good things we have here for cheap gas prices, I'll pay for your one way ticket to Caracas.

Oh yeah. Canada has as much oil as the US and Venezuela combined. Canada has less people in the entire country as California does. So why are the gas prices in Canada the same or higher than in the US? They have more than enough to be self sufficient. People like you are more dangerous than the wackos. At least they have the facts, you're just making it up as you go along.

Just wondering, why are gas prices in Canada so high then?
