Carburetor or TBI?

I have a 1987 Chevy Silverado R-10 that came with the 350 with TBI, i'm looking to make it run better and iwas wondering if i switched to a carb would it help? Also, it seems to be VERY cold natured in the mornings, and a friend told me that it didn't seem to be as bad on his 1970 with a carb. Does this make sence? And if so is there any way to make it do better?
