Really? What kind of gearing and what size rear tires are you running?

I am not quite sure 'cause I burried the speedo on the '78 Stingray, I think it was around 145 or 150 mph.

290 Km/h my top speed

When I was in Europe, a friend of mine, from Germany, just bought a 911 GT3 RS. I asked him if I can drive it. He said he would love me to drive his car to see how fast does it go because he was afraid to take it more than 190.
Few weeks later, here I am, driving this absolutely superb baby on the autobahn.
This baby can reach: 100 Km/h in less than 5 sec. (4.8 to be more precise)
Anyway, as I was reaching 290Km/h my friend asked me to slow down because he is afraid. His face was pale like white paper and so were his knuckles.
I believe I could have take it to over 300 but... .. ohhh... well... .. there will be a next time... ..

The bad news. Recently, every German automobile manufacturer has willingly agreed in putting a 250 km/h cap on their cars. Every company except Porsche of course.

i wish i could have an opprotunity to drive a porsche on the autobahn. 290km/h is like 175mph in mph right? by the way, that sucks about the german cars being governed to 155mph. does that mean even cars like porsches will be governed too?

Porsche and Ferrari have no speed restrictions on their engines

No, as matter of fact Porsche and Ferrari did not signed the agreement on speed limit.

Although engine power is not restricted, most cars are limited to a maximum speed of 250km/h. Modifying engine computer chips is a big after-sales business in Europe by the way.

As well there is a Japanese agreement to limit horsepower to 276, yet blown away by the 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX, this baby being rated 286 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque
Some might see this as restraint of trade, and anti-consumerism.

On the other hand...

... when you think of it... ..

As much as I love speed and implicit fast driving, I can see that a speed restriction is needed. Wooooaaaa... .. before you pull the sword and chop my head off, let me tell you why... .. Two reasons:

Tires and brakes

Car-makers happily increase their vehicles' power but rarely provide brakes to match. For example, the latest Ford XR6 Turbo -- which is as quick as a Porsche -- has the same brakes as a Falcon taxi.

When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified.

They weren't limited, just rated differently. The 3000gt was rated at 276hp, but had around 320. Same thing with the skyline. Common misconception, even I fell for it for a while. Besides, it was originally broken by the new honda accord, not the evo 9.

At speeds excess 150, you're running into problems with a bike. You gotta duck down a hella lot, get the drag coeeficient down, you worry about accidently swerving, or something. It's scary. And nothing but a quarter inch of leather and a helmet to 'break' your fall.
