160 in my 84 Mustang GT with 3.73 Richmond gears, 125 in my 98 Bonneville SSEi and 200 mph when I took a trip to Hawaii and rented a 89 Lamborghini Countach

As well there is a Japanese agreement to limit horsepower to 276, yet blown away by the 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX, this baby being rated 286 horsepower and 289 pound-feet of torque

Wasn't it actually the Acura TSX with 300 hp?

Anyhoo, I've been a passenger in a Pontiac Grand Am at 110mph. Fastest I've driven was 85 in my Mom's Honda Odyssey Minivan with a 2L I4. It wasn't even topped out. That was the top of third at high rpms (there is no tach).

Some might see this as restraint of trade, and anti-consumerism.

On the other hand...

... when you think of it... ..

As much as I love speed and implicit fast driving, I can see that a speed restriction is needed. Wooooaaaa... .. before you pull the sword and chop my head off, let me tell you why... .. Two reasons:

Tires and brakes

Car-makers happily increase their vehicles' power but rarely provide brakes to match. For example, the latest Ford XR6 Turbo -- which is as quick as a Porsche -- has the same brakes as a Falcon taxi.

When Z-speed rated tires were first introduced, they were thought to reflect the highest tire speed rating that would ever be required, in excess of 240 km/h or 149 mph. While Z-speed rated tires are capable of speeds in excess of 149 mph, how far above 149 mph was not identified.

I've never had anything extremely fast....and there are tons of cops everywhere so it's hard to take my cars to their limiters.....

I had the Corsica almost to 110.Granted that it was a 93 2.2, I think it was respectable for its time and the kind of car it was

I haven't had an opportunity to get the Impreza up to high speeds, fastest I've gone so far is 100.....

I know,not very impressive.....

Istill love my cars though

Nice. I will be getting a streetbike, probably a ZX-6R or R6 at the end of this summer.
