Question about Painting?

Anyone know how much it would cost to paint a '94 2dr, Acura Integra. I would like to paint it the Civic SI blue (electron) color? That would be awesome if anyone can give me an estimate.

Haha. $5000 would actually be quite accurate.

I find it amusing when people always say they want to change the cars colour but don't realize how much more it really costs to change the colour, and how much more work is involved....

Funny how no-body ends up changing the colour of their vehicle...

If you change the colour it could EASILY run that high, EASILY. To change the colour of a car you have to remove all of the interior and drop out the engine and trans, and everything else the remains bolted to the compartement.

Where-as if you keep the same colour, you don't have to paint inside the doors or under the hood or in the trunk, so it's much much cheaper. A quote for paint & body work & rust repair on my car was $1600, only that cheap because we work closely with them, otherwise it'd probably go for about 2500-3000 for all that, so much cheaper still.

Depending on quality and location, yes.

With no markup on paint, a good quality respray in a color like the Civic blue will have over $1000 in paint materials, $500 in primers, another couple hundred in sanding and masking supplies, and many, many hours of careful labor in prepping teh car. And that's if ther's no bodywork to be done.

Now, when I was doing paint jobs for a living, I could charge $1500 for a basic same color respray and $1800-2500 for a color change, but I wasn't making very much on labor. Usually a paint job like the one he's talking about would run closer to $3k in order to pay for the labor involved in doing it right. I didn't have a lot of overhead for my shop, and I made more in the repairs that led up to the repaint.
