in a race of about two miles.. long open multi lane road , do you think my '94 sho taurus would be able to beat a '99 dodge avenger? is it possible?

Sure. The SHO is a much better car than most realize. The Avenger is just a regular Eclipse with a different body, and it's V6 doesn't have the top end pul that the SHO's Yamaha developed engine delivers.

But if the race is for two miles, it's not a drag race... it's a race to see who can be caught first.

Hmmm....take into account the limitations though. My 1990 Ford taurus GL is restricted to 85. If ford did the same thing in the SHO, (which I believe the 94 is the same generation as mine), then it'll probably be restricted also. I believe yamaha/whatever the company was back then, built the SHO engine and ford assembled it. Good little sleeper car. Pretty fast for early 90s.

Nope. I don't think that even the speedo was limited to 85 mph. I seem to recall the SHOs of that gen were good for 140 mph... restricting it would have defeated it's purpose and never gotten teh reviews or following it got.

I have a feeling that it will be pretty close, but if both cars are stock, and there are no speed limitations on your car, you may actually win. I wanna knows how this turns out though.

I think the SHO would win, I've ridden in both cars, and the SHO had some minor computer mods, intake, and exhaust. So perhaps that will skew my opinion, but it was a very surprisingly quick sedan, especially with four people in it.
