Car Stereo

hi i own a zr but the factory stereo is really crap when turned up loud, on the motorway you can hardly hear it before it goes distorted.
I have my eye on a few headunits, can anyone let me know which they think is the best and whether they have used one or not.

Either Pioneer unit would be good. Also look into Panasonic,Alpine and Eclipse units.

Nice picks but heres some that are better!!!

I use a Sony headunit with Rockford Fosgate speakers and subs. i would look into the Sonys and the Pioneers that first one you listed is a GREAT choice.

well, out of the three links that you have, the first one is the best, I could go in to all the reasons if you want... Unless of course, you don't plan on using amplifiers...

As for speakers, there are some really good brands out there, it all depends on how much you want to spend. What I generally recommend for speakers is to goto your local audio store with a cd of your favorite songs, and listen. Be wary though, that is not an ideal listening setup, so some will sound different then in your car.

Sony makes probably the worst HU's next to Dual.

i wasnt going to say anything about sony HUs and their low quality until i saw the other posts ragging on them...

yes, sony sucks.

rockford makes some great amps, in fact, i use one myself. it isnt the lowest quality amp, nor is it one of the top amps out there. Its great for a mid-range stereo.

overall stereo quality is directly related to how much you are willing to spend...

Actually, Rockford amps are known for blowing fuses and just plain, blowing up. But they arent bad in terms of power or sound quality, just reliability.

I rode my rockford amp hard for the time I used it, and haven't had a problem, my sisters rockford never had problems(until it got stolen), my buddys truck, twin 15" rockfords running off a rockford amp took the two sub class SPL competition we had in town(then again, it wasn't exactly a high class competition), along with outlaw SP.
