Question Car Comparo. Tough Choice. NEED HELP!

I am currently in the process of researching to buy a sports car. My current finalists are the ,90-96 Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo, 94-Whenever Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4, 93-95 Mazda RX-7, 98-2002 Pontiac Trans Am WS6, , Honda S2000. And i think thats all. The car i buy will be a Manual and it will be modded. The car will be raced at a local road course and autocross events. Most of these cars are about egual in straight line performance and handling (Even some of these cars are complete polar opposites). I would love to hear anyones opinions on these cars( I know about the reliabiltiy issues with the rx-7 but i know of a very good local rotary mechanic) anything from how they handle at the track, repair costs, aftermarket support, to gas mileage. Please tell me which car you think is superior and why. I would appreciate any help and i really need it. Thanks.

So are you interested in the look of the thing, or purely performance?
Obviously if you're going to drive it around everywhere, you want something that looks schmick, but if it's purely for racing, looks shouldn't matter, as long as it's quick.

Rx-7 hands down, japans best cornering machine and has the best power to weight ratio of the lot.

Yeah, My brother has an FD3S and daily drives it. Decent car day to day, and the thing just rockets you when you ask it to.

whoa, lets not get too hasty here. There is a lot more to the rx7 than meets the eye. Im in the process of acquiring an rx7 myself (FC3S not FD) so i know a little bit about em.

The rx7 is unreliable because people don't know jack sh!t about it. Therefore, you need to be extremely careful when buying. Don't always count on rotary mechanics, many mazda rotary mechanics don't know what they are doing either. Look for the 'R' series, they have better cooling systems etc. Visit rx7club to find out more.

For autocross, only the rx7 and the s2k are worth pursuing. The others are just too heavy and not suited imo.

From my understanding, the 300z is difficult to mod thanks to the motor. The vr-4 weighs over 3600lbs!?! As for the WS6, my friend has one and the thing sounds sweet. Thats all i know about it.

All the cars will be expensive to repair, all have bad gas mileage, aftermarket for the v8 is probably cheapest while S2ks will be hella expensive.

I have become very knowledgeable on the rx-7 and ive got a list off things to check for when buying (very extensive). The WS6 makes a helluva good autocross car cause there so easy to mod(This is the car i have the most experience with). I recently found out that the 3000gt actually weighs slightly over 4000 pounds and thats weigh to much so im not pursuing that car anymore. About the gas mileage some of the cars get great gas mileage for wat they are. My best friends own an Automatic T/A and a Six Speed Z28 and the TA stock gets 28mpg on the highway and the Z28 has an opened up exhaust and intake and gets 35 mpg on the highway and thats pretty freakin good for such a hot V8. And the 300zx is actually quite easy to mod because of the turbos. Ive spoke with people that are making 450 at the wheels with nothing extreme done to the car. PLease keep the opinions coming

You said the rx7 has the best power to weight ratio. Im not so sure about that. An rx7 has 255hp and 2800 pounds. A WS6 has 345 and weighs in at somewhere around 3300 pounds

Sorry that was a bit general, I don't really know much about the WS6.

would you consider an older model subaru sti of some sort, or are you stuck on the cars that you mentioned? if so than the rx-7 would be my choice.

Actually, I don't know if you'll even be able to get a hold of an older STi. But if you can, by all means go for it!

I looked at the M3s for a while. But there was someting about them i just didnt like. I guess its just thast i wanted a full bred sports car and not some heavy luxury performance. But i recently got to do a few laps in a new m3 and ohj boy was i impressed. How do the older body style m3s (like yours) perform?
