Well, it can be one of 2 things, both having to do with induction.

1) Your hood could be a Ram Air style hood, such as on a Trans Am Ram Air, it has raised induction intakes on the hood.
2) It could also be a special kind of air box under the hood of your car to get more air into the engine.

Not exactly, ram air is kind of like a cold air intake and turbo and superchargers are forced induction that help increase your horspower and torque greatly

I was just wondering because a guy here has a picture of a ram air induction kit and it just looks like cold air intake to me, is one better than the other?

The ram air takes in more air in than the cold air intake but I don't know if the ram air cools it like a cold air intake does.

the ram air kit that you see probably has the pipe near the bottom of the front clip, sometimes in a fog lamp hole...so theoretically if your pushing more air into the engine, at a higher speed, and closer to the ground, then the air would be cooler by default.

i THINK its just a short pipe where when your going really fast, the air is RAMed into the intake.
