Question Missed a shift today.....

Hey guys,

I just bought my first car about a week ago. On my way to work this morning, I was slowing down in 5th gear and at about 45 mph, went to downshift to 4th and ended up in 2nd.....the dreaded 5-2 misshift. It was probably in gear for a second or 2 before i clutched out.

The car drives fine and I haven't noticed any problems, but should i be concerned? I called my mechanic and said this kind of thing happens and it should be ok. This happened in a 94 Geo Prizm.... not a super nice car, but its still my new car......

long as you didn't hear anything breaking it shouldn't be of much concern. If the tranny begins to slip/cause trouble then you are in deep shat!

I haven't been driving standard for very long either (4 months), and normally I do alright. But the other day, I was driving along at around 50km/h, and I saw my friend coming at me in his car from the other direction...So as I was going to yell something at him, for some reason my left foot just sunk into the clutch pedal, and being disconnected from the tranny, the engine revved extremely high until I realized it. Unfortunately I don't have a tach, but I'm pretty sure I redlined it for a few seconds. I was quite embarassed.
