Someone Tell Me....

Which gear is more gas efficient on the freeway doing around 80mph? i have a 2002 type s rsx 6 SPEED MANUAL.

5thgear or 6th gear and why?

ive heard that 5th gear is more gas efficient, but the rpms goes above 4000 when i reach 80. and when im on 6th its much lower. if im not mistaken the lower the rpm the more gas efficient correct?

I think its 6th gear. Although i'm not sure. But i think your right about the rpm being lower the more petrol you save

Keep the revs and throttle input low for good fuel economy. Shift to 6th.

6th gear should be the overdrive on a 6-speed like 5th is on a 5-speed

Depends if you're trying to accelerate or maintain 80mph.

This is quite elementary...I think you know the answer.

Yea there both overdrives i guess you could say. but over drive usualy reffers to the one gas saving gear. so in a 5 speed 5th is and in a 6 speed 6th gear is. the only difference is that in a 5 speed 5th gear is lower. and in a 6 speed the 5th gear its not as low because you still have the extra gear. so yea if you want to cruise at 80 and dont plan on accelarating too much then shove it 6th but if you need to pass someone or something then shift down to 5th till after your done then back up to 6th.

1st gear... definatly first gear... haha, im sorry but that one shoulda been a given... the highergear is the lower RPM to speed... lower RPM = less gas being pumped in, thus always highest gear for gas save... unless there is some wierd tranny that im not thinking about... i guess there could be?

Actually no, sorry.

What is this "but overdrive usually refers to the one gas saving gear" crap? Who told you that? The term Overdrive is not just a term used to describe the most fuel efficient gear, it is actually a technical term taken from real numbers.

Overdrive refers to any gear that is lower than a 1:1 ratio, such as 0.87:1. This means that the output shaft of the transmission will be spinning faster than the engine's RPM. Thus, the term "Overdrive". Six speed transmissions tend to have 2 gears lower than a 1:1 ratio.

Please don't make things up.
