Chevy citation

I am interested in purchasing an old chevy citation from a neighbor. why would i want such a piece of crap? well, i want to buy something cheap that i can beat up and not worry about. then when i am done smashing into shopping carts and such i plan to enter it into a demo derby - in a compact class of course.

my question is, how much should i offer for the car? i can't find any on ebay to judge from. i don't know alot about the car other than it is a 1980 or 81. it is a four door. the engine came from my sister's old citation oddly enough. she rolled it about 10 years ago but the engine was fine. my neighbor dropped it into a differnt citation and then parked it in an old barn where it has sat unused ever since! the barn is literally falling down around this car and if i don't act soon the car will probably be crushed. for whatever reason this guy has never driven it or tried to sell it. anyway i want to spend no more than $200. does that seem reasonable. what should i offer to pay for it???

thanks

I wish I did have a pic, but i dont. I will try to get one soon but i unfortunatly i am 3 hours away from home right now at college. the car is undoubtably in poor condition, it does not have a cover over it and the last time i saw it a few years ago, i could not see through the windows or even see any paint. it has a thick layer of dust on it. i'm sure mice have gotten into it by now and the tires are quite possibly dry rotted.

on Kelly blue book, i looked up the value of a 1984 citation II (the oldest model they had available). the value was $405 if the car was in fair condition. in poor condition there was no available info.

any input or advice is welcome. thanks.

This is really pretty simple if you'll just let it be. You want to buy a car to beat the shit out of and then demo derby it. This is not a car you're buying to cart around the family and need to get good service from for a few years, it's not a serious piece of transportation. So what is it worth? Well, what is it worth to you to have a car to beat the shit out of and then demo derby it. I think we can pretty safely say it's not worth $10,000 or $5,000 or even $1,000. But if it's worth a couple of hundred bucks to buy a beater to beat on then what's the problem?

Bottom line is YOU are the only one who knows what it's worth to you. Honestly I think if you can't decide, you probaly don't have the cojones to demo derby anyway.

yeah if i could get it for anything under $100 I'd be happy. I think my max is going to be $150 but I need to see it again. i havn't seen the car in 3 or 4 years and to be honest i don't even know if it is an auto or manual.

Although I don't have a picture of the exact car i am hoping to get, these are similar. The one I have my eye on is in better shape (less rust, all windows still intact).

looks fine. If it has less rust, I think it'd be fine. With all windows intact however, if you're going to derby it you'll need to take them out nyways. But that's one of the fun parts!

Hell yeah. My plans are to drive it around for awhile before I make it derby ready so the windows will be nice to have at first.

78 posts and you FINALLY said something intelligent. Let's hope we don't have to suffer through 78 more to get another gem.
