BMW reliability?

I'm thinking of buying an early to mid nineties 3 series or 5 series, but I wasn't sure about their reliabilty...

Is, say, a 325 on its death bed at 150,000 KM (93,000 Mi)? Or do they last maybe 300,000 KM (186,000 Mi).

I just don't know what kind of mileage should be my cutoff when looking...

Anyone help from anyone experienced would be a great help...

The service history and engine oil colour will dictate how long it will last.

BMWs are very reliable...depending on how they have been treated. If they have just been daily driven, hum-drum, putting around town sort of thing your good for 200k-250k miles. If they have been tracked every weekend and wrapped to redline every other stoplight, you're still good to 150k miles.

93k on a BMW is really "young"...but don't let that be the only judge of reliability. The best thing to do is to take the car to a BMW mechanic and have them give it the look over. It will be the best $100-$200.00 you've ever spent. This it true for any car...not just a BMW.

My '88 528e just rolled over 200k miles and still runs real strong!
