Car for under 4000$

I am, sadly, a high school student. I worked all summer, to be able to afford a car. I have ~4000$. The cheaper it is, the more modifications I will be able to afford.

I want a car that has 3 pedals. Absolutely no automatics.

I want a car that looks good. Not rice good, good. I don't plan to do cosmetics.

I want a car that is relatively quick stock. Not smoke everything, but shouldn't be a challenge to race the average honda.

I want a car with an aftermarket. Easy parts to find are usually cheaper, and therefore I can progress with my car as I work during school.

I would prefer a car with rear wheel drive. One wheel burnouts around corners aren't cool.

With those guidelines, what would be everyone's suggestions? I have looked at Generation 2 Integras, Fieros, Talons, etc. Thoughts of any kind will be appreciated...except flames, which will most likely be ignored.

What about an getting an auto with an extra pedal next to the brake that doesn't do anything so you can push in and out as much as you want?

Toyota AE86, manual, cheap rwd, not a "ricer car", after market parts and could "smoke" some honda's.....

My friend has a 85? Fiero that he bought for $1500. He's had nothing but problems with it and it seems every time he gets it back on the road, it's back off again. He also told me that whenever there's a problem internally, the engine has to come out in order to fix the problem and the labor charge kills him. This is just my experience with just this one car. Someone might know more about them so I don't want to mislead you if I'm wrong.

You could get a 1990 toyota supra for like, $4,950 or a Mazda RX-7 from the same year for the same price. or a 1995 talon 4 $5,000, or a porsche 911 for 4,500, but that might make insurance a problem.

Well, I was going to say look at a few Quad 4 Chevy Berettas (GTZ, and 94 Z26. The Quad Z26 ones are rare though). Mine ran 15.8s all day long in the Quarter with 105K on it. Good looks, I killed a few riced Civics around here with it, and you should be able to find them for the 2-3G range. And if you save up a bit more, you can grab a turbo for them and run 13's. Might want to bump up your internals first though.

Only problem is, they don't have a huge aftermarket, and they are FWD.

And they have the usual Quad 4 problems.

Very true...headgasket is the main one. When they run they're nice engines though.

Yeah, when I looked into fieros, that's what I heard, problems...

The AE86 looks interesting, but I can't find much info on it. Any links to it in its stock form?

As for the quad four, Fwd and small aftermarket would put it out for me. thanks though

Keep shouting things out, like cars that I could have missed in my search.

^ no way, thats way too expensive. FC RX7s can be had for $2k or less.

Now, you said your in high school. Can you drive? What is your driving history? Go to a driving school first before you even buy a car.

I'm in high school, and i've been driving for well over a year now with no tickets/accidents, anything. No nearby driving schools. I'll learn what I can from my dad, who's got an m3

1st and 2nd gen Eclipse GSX/ Talon Tsi AWD are good cars in that price range with vast aftermarket support. 2nd Gen Probes/ Mazda MX-6s are good too. Fox Body Mustang GT 5.0L v8, yummy.

Yeah, I've been looking around for those a lot. No good dsms for sale in my area as of right now...nor anything but 4 cylinder mustangs (who the .... thought of 4 cylinder AMERICAN MUSCLE CARS?)

Are probes rear-wheel drive? I drove one once for about 2 minutes, it was pretty alright. Do they have a large aftermarket?

If Integras were rear-drive...i'd probably have one already. If a good '92-'93 teg comes along, i'll probably get it.
