1996 Ford Explorer Turn signal replacement

Hi,
I have a 1996 Ford Explorer and need a Turn signal replacement. I bought a used turn signal assemby but can't seem to get the covers off of the steering column so I can disconnect and put the new one on.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
