2000 Chevy Monte Carlo rack and pinion installation

I have a 2000 Monte Carlo, and have all the bolts off of the old rack and pinion steering mechanism, but can't seem to get the darn thing out of the car. There is a tip that is about 1 inch square and 2 inches long that seems to be hanging up inside the boot. Any idea on how to get this loose?????

well i have no idea what yer talkin about but if you pulled the boot back what do ya see? is it connected to the steering colum ? and have a little u-joint lookin thing on it? i would guess there is a pinch bolt holding the column shaft to the rack, so undo the bolt and slide it off
Despite the high cost of living, it remains very popular.
