Engine cuts off-97 Contour

My daughter purchased a 97 Ford Contour at an auto auction. Drove fine, now to deal with issues since it is a guessing game at auctions.
When idling for a few minutes the engine cuts off. I've seen mention of checking the fuel filter & carb float...which I will pass along to our do-it-yourselfer....
Any other thoughts about this issue?
Anyone have history with this make/model car?
Thanks for any help!

no carb or floats on a 97
need to check for fuel and spark when it cuts out
engine size 4 or 6 cylinder?
when it dies can you start it up right away or wait a bit?

97 Contour

I've since been instructed there is no float.

We were able to restart it right away. It is a 4-cylinder. Thanks for any insight!

so it might be plugged fuel filter causing lack of fuel & pressure

I'll ask them to check that out...hope that's it!
She took it for inspection and just a few minor things, hopefully we got lucky with this. She explained to them and they mentioned it might need to be tuned up...I don't think that's it though. Then again, I'm clueless on this...trying any resource I can find before dumping a bunch of money.
Thanks so much for the feedback & have a great day!
