shocks and springs

i'v heard from a couple people that if i install lowering springs with the stock shocks it will be real bad on the shocks. wanted to know if someone with more experience could tell me more about that. thanks

stock springs will give the ride hieght specified by the manufacturer
the shocks will be make for the travel(up and down) of the vehicles suspension for stock applications

you replace the spring with a shorter one. the stock shock will now bottom close/compress down on itself and damage the shock

NOTE
some ppl have a misunderstanding on springs and shocks
springs support/lift the wieght of the vehicles
the shock controls up/down(jounce/rebound)of the spring
