Chevy is really stepping it up with the new 6.6L Duramax for their 06 model 2500/3500 silverados. Going from 310hp/605tq to 360hp (amazing)/650tq puts it way out in the lead for 3/4ton and 1 ton diesel pickups. Torque usually is the only factor in deciding what big truck is better (and it doesnt disappoint with 650tq @ 1600rpms) but damn, 360hp ALSO? These diesels have really come along in power in the last decade.
Dodge only has 325hp @ 2900rpms and 610tq @ 1600rpms from its Cummins.
Ford is pulling 325hp @ 3300rpms and 570tq @ 2000rpms from the Powerstroke.
Ford really needs to step it up now that the Cummins and Duramax make more power and sooner than it. The Cummins could use a boost in power as well since it's usually the torque king.
Imagine what numbers a new Duramax would put down with a 5" exhuast, big intake, chip and big intercooler... I'm thinking in the 450hp/770tq range. Imagine a 2500HD with an automatic 6spd Duramax pull up to your brand new shiny Hemi 1500 Ram and blow you away... that's just sick.
