E30 M3

I saw an ad in the paper for a 1990 M3, white, black interior. The ad said they were taking offers and didn't put a starting price. This car is super rare, especially here in Vancouver, BC. I was wondering how much I would expect to pay for one? If the price is right I will make an offer. I don't know what the mileage is, so give me a range.

If I did end up getting it, I would be one happy camper. This car is my latest obsession.

(This isn't the actual car)

Generally figure on about $8-13k US, depending on mileage/condition. Cheaper than that gets into rough cars that will cost way too much to get nice.

He doesnt have it yet, he's just wondering what would be a reasonable price for the one in particular that he's talking about (as those pics arent of the car for sale).

Damn...thats a harsh reality check. I'll look into it, but I don't think I'm ready to pay that much.

Well I just phoned the guy about it to get some info. It has 180,000 km (111,000 miles), and is local. Thats all I could get, because it seems the guy is fed up with people calling for information, but not coming to see it, so he said to come by. As it turns out, he's located about 5-10 minutes from where I work, so I may just check it out tomorrow...

Chris, I know it depends on condition and use, but do you think, based on your own experience, that the mileage is too high?

If it's been well maintained, it's still got a hundered thousand miles or so to go without problems. Maybe more. They ARE durable cars, but people tend to abuse them. They ARE literally race cars for the stret and require teh kind of care and maintenance that race cars get to stay in top condition. You don't just beat on them and change the oil. Which is why I say to stay away from low dollar ones, as that usually means there is a lot that is about to be needed to be repaired (and those repairs are NOT cheap).

A well maintained one will be a great car for a long time. An average or poorly maintained one will be a nightmare.
