High revs problem

My 1.6 fiesta SI sits at around 3k when you start it up, any reason why? And how much would the job be?

How many miles? Automatic or Manual? Do you let it warm up for around 7-10 minutes?

Can that be very expensive to fix? will this hinder the acceleration?

Ok, I dunno about transmission ... this is when it's not even in gear, right?

So, you start it up, it goes to 3000rpm. Does it stay there, or is it just for a minute or 2? Check that, because it could just be an automatic choke that keeps the revs up while the car is warming up.

Yep it shoots upto 3k when idle, over the weekend I did an 80 mile round trip in it, and the revs stayed high the whole time, for example 5000revs just doing 40 in 5th. Its booked into a garage on thursday, 2 more queries though, can i keep driving it about? and may this be hindering the acceleration and top speed of the car?

If it's just an idler problem, it should be fixed (have you got a manual for the car?), but shouldn't have too much effect on performance I wouldn't have thought.... I've been wrong before though (I just don't admit it).

Thing is though, as i said, its high revs when idle, but high revs when being driven to... O well ill let you know thursday evening hopefully, and with regards to a manual, yes ive got a manual for the car, if for some reason you meant manual choke, then no.. but i don't think you did mean that lol

Even with the auto choke doing it's thing, it shouldn't rev that high.

Is it a 16valve Zetec or an 8-Valve CVH engine (if you dont know...the Zetec will have 'Zetec' written on it...and the Spark Plugs will be on top of the engine, whereas the CVH spark plugs go in kinda diaganally, as with most 8-valvers)

I seem to recall (could be wrong) that the SI's were 16-Valve though, so I'll work from that. I recon it might be something as simple as a vacuum hose fallen off. If not, it could be the idle control valve. Does it start up ok from warm?

And 6000LE...how can you say it's a Tranny problem? lol

Yer it starts first time everytime, and yes its a 1.6 16v. If its not the vacuum hose, but the idle control valve is that easy to fix?

... maybe if the AUTO (I meant auto) choke was doing its job .... and if it was, there may not be a problem. sorry, I'm just trying to troubleshoot atm.... looking for possible points of failure.

hmmm, only think i could think of in this case is something to do with the throttle, probably way off the mark - i know in my sisters car the throttle was set wrong(and sue me if it wasnt actually the throttle, this was like 2 years ago so i cant remember to clearly, some of the other guys might have an idea of what im referring to) and it caused her car to idle really high too...

just a suggestion.

6000LE - mine idles at 600-800rpm
