Respect...

Okay, so I had a little chat with someone regarding respect. They feel that everyone should be respected, even those who have not earned it.

My stance is that the only people who deserve respect are those who have earned it.

Needless to say, this caused a little bit of a row between us...

Thoughts/Opinions?

I think people deserve to be treated politely until they don't deserve it...but respect is earned.

yeah, i guess I should have clarified that further - I'll give anyone respect when I meet them, but once they've lost it, it's a long time before they get it back....

HA! Two of something...guess his friend could have shoved two graham crackers down the intake and that would be a twin turbo setup for Mr. Skyline.

Lol that gave me a good laugh, thanks

On another note, this just goes to show how ignorant some people may be... quite sad isn't it?

Now now remember everyone is entitled to their own opinion. But that doesn't mean they are right.

Me too. Unfortunately, some people get put in positions of authority and then think they somehow deserve respect. You know, like people who get to be a mod for no apparent reason and go around mindlessly closing, censoring or editing posts like they live in a socialist country. Do you know anybody like that?

I think that respect should be earned as well. I know what you mean hobo, some of my relatives are horrible. One of my uncles is horrible; just because he's old, he orders me around and speaks behind my back. Sure he is older then I, but they act very immature, more so than I. They treat me like crap, yet I am extremely polite to them. Tradition require me to be polite to him but i don't respect him.

Considering that Cliffy has a life outside of being a mod here at this forum, i say hes doing a pretty good job. He finds time to post, and to edit stuff. But, sometimes things do get out of hand. Like ferrari666, and skylineSomething, you could be a little quicker on dealing with those guys. Also, recently alot of people are plugging adds and starting threads about dealerships and stuff. But, i'm not haggling on you or something; i know you don't have to do anything on this site. I just want to say thanks for the work.

Well just to be a the preverbial in the wood pile I don't think a person earns respect. I would doubt anybody I respect has set out to engender it, merely gone about their normal routine for personal gratification without big noting themselves.

But I think that's exactly the point Wally. A slimy used car salesman TRIES to earn your respect, or at least your trust, but he's still a slimey used car salesman looking to take you for whatever he can. It's the people who gain respect just by being themselves who truly earn and deserve that respect.
