Custom Air Induction (Questions)

Hey all, i own an FXGT 1990. (16 yr/old)

I just bought a Podfilter (not an K&N as my budget was tight) Its a Monza one.

Been a car noob, im learning to do everything myself.
Well, i got the Pod filter in, its sitting in the bottom half of the air box.
Problem is, the sensors cant go back on unless i put the top half of the air box back on which i dont want to, and it wont fit..
Do i need these sensors?? theres only two there (aswell as some straw like tube which sucks in air )

It seems to be operating well without it.

Anywayz, i want to increase air intake. So i was thinking of CAI, which i just read up on.. its like running a pipe from outside the car up through the bottom of the car and around to the pod filter.
How will i go about doing this, what will i need to remove or is it just a matter of shoving a pipe through some gaps.

Also, I need the pod filter to stand without the bottom airbox and its held on a flexi pipe, so it wont hold by itself, should i mount a pipe on the end?

Thanks..
