I need a new car I have 1000 squid to spend!

Ok first of all hello, my name is Carl!

I have an mg midget which was really great fun in the summer but now the winter has come along and I think I need something more reliable as I am having a lot of trouble with the MG.

I have about 1000 pound to spend and I am not really to sure what to get. I want something thatís not to expensive on parts if something goes wrong and also something that looks half way decent (maybe with a bit of speed).

I was thinking of a Mazda mx3 but realised it was a bit girly and expensive on parts. So now I am thinking of getting a Toyota of some kind, I have seen a few Mr2's for around a grand.

Anyway just wondered if anybody could make a suggestion?

Cheers in advance.

Welcome to CF, Carl.

£1,000 goes quite a long way these days, an early MR-2 would be reliable and a sound investment, though. Dependent though, on if it's been well looked after and isn't starting to corrode (like they do lol )

So $1,720 US, or $2,015CAD...I'd say an MR2 would be a pretty nice car.

For 1000 quid you can pick up some really nice and even cool cars. Right now I'm looking at an '88 Fiesta with under 9k miles (yes 9000) on it for only 750 (sorry, can't make the pound sign). Or a '68 Bedford HA camper for 950. How about an '83 Capri 2.8 for 700. Or a Lancia HPE, 495. All of these cars have current tax, long MOT's and are enthusiast owned. Every time I look at this stuff, I'm ready to move back to the UK. You guys don't know how good you've got it, car wise.

I agree....funny as it may seem lol..jk. In recent years I've seen the price of even newer cars drop dramatically. You can easilly pick up a Ford Mondeo on an R - S reg ('97-'98) for £900 and half the time that's with a Service history and a reasonable mileage. Fair enough, they're hardly classics, but with new models from manufacturers regularly being released these days, you can usually pick up a bargain
