RAV4 - 14 second 1/4 mile, STOCK?
You saw the title right, a RAV4 doing the 1/4 mile in the 14 second range. Sifting through the Jan 2006 of C/D I came across the newly redesigned 2006 RAV4. So I decided to take a look at it and it didnt look half bad, price isnt too high, dash is nice, interior just "okay"....then I got to the acceleration figures and was BLOWN AWAY. Okay, first this BEAST is using the 3.5L DOHC V6 (in the upper models) rated at 269hp. They tested a 4WD model loaded out Limited (heaviest) with a 5AT tranny and got these figures...
0-30 = 2.3 seconds
0-60 = 6.3 seconds
0-100 = 17.0 seconds
HEre's the most impressive:
1/4 Mile = 14.9 @ 94mph
Wow, just wow, that's fricken fast for the small SUV market (hell MOST of the SUV market, which is in the high 15s-mid 16s mostly).
Even more impressive is the skidpad result of .83g on a 300ft skidpad. Which hell, that's some grip for an SUV (Albeit car based, still ,a SUV).
In comparison it's main Ford/Chevy/Honda competition, they all do the 1/4 in over 16 seconds according to C/D.
In the same issue they have a 4WD Durango with the "godly" 335hp Hemi and it's SIGNIFICANTLY slower, taking a second longer to 60mph and a second longer to get through the 1/4 mile (not to mention pulled a paultry .71g on the 300ft skidpad)... Wow, just wow. Did Toyota accidentally just create a perfomance SUV?
This honestly is just mind boggling in so many ways. It's like the surprise the Forester XT caused.
