Did you think of getting an older jetta? You have 3500 dollars saved, but did you also think that you had to pay for insurance and gas. Also you said you can't finish the payments on your moms elantra, but your dad told you to look into getting an elantra?

I think she wants something reliable

I'd stay away from Mazdas, they arent known for their reliability. Toyota or Honda, aim for them.

Well if you read the whole thread, you would see that she was considering a Neon. Mine has been pretty sturdy and I got the biggest HFS in the world.

BMW is my recommendation. Just great cars.... they are reliable and look good....gas wise..i think they are average around 26 mpg and last i checked neons suck on gas. Civic's a good car for a girl something like a 1998 lx

If you want reliability, I'd go with a Toyota or Honda. A Neon for reliability isn't the way to go IMO.

Neons are great on gas. 26MPG city for a 2 liter car compared to your 1.6 and getting just about the same, its really a win for the Neon

My reason for suggesting fords is there common cheaper parts and easy to work on and there prety reliable.

I agree that if a bmw breaks down or need repairs it's costly but they are good on gas and have good safety ratings...everyone deserves a little luxury and i think a 325i is great. Neons aren't reliable i was talking about this with someone last week before my trip. I was at a mechanics picking up my grandpa's van and they had a neon lifted. I laughed and the owner gave me a quick look. We started talking about the car we both came to the conclusion that you get what you pay for he payed cheap for the car...and keeps spending on repairs. There are a total of 8 neon's at my school (we get bored in english class and count peoples cars). All of them belong to girls. One of the girls is in my Calc AP class and a few weeks ago someone broke into it and stole stereo out of it.. she kept going on how crappy it is. I dunno i personally don't like them just as i don't like cavaliers. That's just my personal prefrence. I'd recommend something a long the lines of an accord.

Seriously, I'd go with Toyota. It's a name known for reliability, the Corolla isn't bad, if you get an S, then it kinda looks sporty. The performance isn't a sport car, but if you go with a standard it's got pep. Throw some nice tires on it, and it'll help the handling.

I don't know, I've never known Neons to be too reliable, and if you're low on cash, and unable to attain financial support from parents then you want a car that doesn't need money put in to it really.

(Note: The neons comment, my neighbor has one, and has had to put a lot of money in to it to keep it running, it may just be him, a crappy neon, or his bad driving habits, but this is personal experience, so don't go all trigger-happy on me)
