Gettin more power from a muffler?

OK here is what I thought out. My exhaust piping is in decent shape, but my muffler is sideways (the pipe comes from the headers back through a cat of course, and then makes a 90 degree turn becuase the muffler is sideways. then the exhaust tips are curved as well), so i thought that getting a high flow muffler would help me anyway because if they can cut the pipe, and get rid of those few bends, by just having a new muffler straight from the pipe and not turned, it should free up a few horses. What do you think? Cost is $150 installed for a borla highflow (nice sound deep but not ricey)

Replacing a muffler is going to give you very little power. 3 or 4 horses.

And what do you mean "headers?"

3-4 horsepower is a 6-8% gain in horsepower for this kid.....

Really? Starting motor is a 150 horsepower DOHC. How is that 6-8%. BTW im now thinking a light underdrive pulley, and hard motor mounts.

Underdrive pulleys I've heard aren't the best for your engine because of how they make everything run faster or slower I forgot which one.

A neon dude told me that port and polish will set me back around 300 (head and intake mantifold) and gime like 10 horsepower at least..and some nice torque as well.

He means the headers coming off from either side of that big V8.

Oh and this thread doesn't really make sense because mufflers don't give you any power...

But in this case, eliminating the turn COULD. I was just looking to find out.

That still doesn't mean you're getting power from your muffler. It would be robbing less power.

Yea i suppose so. Someone suggested a port and polish makes really good differences. I am just thinking save for 2 years, drive the neon, learn stick meantime, and get an SRT-4. Low miles of course. Id really love to keep it as a second car when i get whatever else once I start working after college.

What about a Honda Hybrid? Or any of those other crazyt ideas you had and how the SRT-4 wasn't really efficient for what yo needed it. You switch what you want to do all around all the time.
