erg thats what i tried to tell him, but he wouldn't listen hes stubborn that way oh well its put in he will be sorry when it blows out. I don't want subs in my car, but I'm thinking about putting in speakers. What do you recommend? My dad has a clarion set in his malibu and it sounds clear and nice also gets pretty loud. For about a price range I'd say 350 or less don't really want to go more than that.

What size speakers are we talking about here?

And do you already have an aftermarket HU?

no aftermarkets, but as for the size I'd have to check...cars in the shop right now um 90 gt mustang hatch if you know what size those have.

edit: did a quick search and seems that its 3.5" for dash 5.25" in the doors and 6"X8" in the rear

Oh, heh...

I dont worry about it getting stolen, my car is 98% of the time parked in a gated parking garage at my apartment complex or back at home parked in a gated retirement home community.

Okay, I'd definatley go with components in the front (5.25" mids for the doors and 3/4"-1.25" tweeters in that 3.5" dash spot (just buy an adapter). Then stick some good bass heavy 6x9's in those rear panels since you dont want to go with subs. Then buy a 4-channel amp to power everything with.

First what you NEED to do is buy an aftermarket HU, as just replacing the stock speakers and keeping the stock HU wont be much of an upgrade. Aftermarket speakers need more power something stock HU's cant put out. You dont need to spend a crazy amount of money on the HU, just something that is decent and has at least two pre-outs.

I recommend these...
Alpine CDE-9845 = $133
Refurb. Clarion DXZ-835MP = $115
JVC KD-G510 = $125
Kenwood KDC-MP428 = $128
Pioneer Premier DEH-P470MP = $128

All those a very good HU's for the price. Personally though, I'd get the Clarion, as it has 3 pre-outs as opposed to the rest having 2 and it has higher voltage preouts at that (4 volt as opposed to the others 2 or 2.5 volt). Dont be afraid to buy refurbished, refurbished means it's as good as new.

Every HU mentioned above is from ikesound.com.

We can work on speakers and amp later.

Also that kinda stinks about the SI but maybe it jsut wasn't meant to be.

Thats what I was asking and still am.

But that's how it is in your state? I imagine it will be federal, I will ask my teacher and ask at the DMV when I go to get my regular tags monday. They should know hopefully.

I just did a quick search, seem classic tags can only be on cars that are NOT daily drivers.
