A garage workshop will be ok.....or you could take it to a bodyshop

But see what they say, as to whether it's road worthy!

Un-road worthy = If the car's gonna go down the road and the suspension's going to fall out from underneath you because it's excessively corroded in certain areas.

Road worthy = If the car has a little bit if corrosion that isn't classed as structual (like I mentioned in an above post!)....and the car aint gonna fall apart!

lol....To be honest, without seeing it it's hard to tell how bad it is. Just because you've safely driven at 80mph with no problems, doesn't make it road worthy. In most cases rust will fail a test well before the car falls apart, but it's best to nip it in the bud!

I personally prefer the look of this shape to its successor, I owned one for a while (1.6 Driver) and she gave me no trouble at all!

I still find it weird the differences between the U.S. and England. You mention seeing MKII Golfs all the time and since I can remember I've only ever seen one going on the road here in the states!

Cant think why that would be lol. Maybe beacause thy're more Europan orientated cars? dunno, all I know is that they're one of the more popular 'older' cars to be found on our roads!

Check on the severity of the rust. Also check with a tape measure or something, to see if it's close to any essential componants like suspension struts etc. Also, if it's on the sills or wheel arches!

I meant a 'sill' as in the one at the bottom of the car that runs along the side....not the windows...

Hate to interrupt your little conversation here...

A. Whats the mileage? Thats pretty important.

B. Theres no use talking to Cliffy because England is worlds apart from us, everything you've discussed is potentially different. (Roadworthyness, car specs, price, reliability, etc)

I think its a good deal if the mileage isn't too high. I personally like MKII's myself, but I don't know about the reliability. I hear people from both ends of the spectrum talking about.

I think would make a good first car , and all first cars should be stick!

ya man... cause u aint drivin unless u driven stick

its got 160 000 kms but i hear vw's reach 300 000. the engine runs good, its just the body hats has some rist and a cracked muffler

oh, id be paying about 400$ canadian. what id want too do is put a high performance muffler since that ones busted.. something around 100-200$, a new black paint job and fix up the body so its dent/rust free.. hoping to get the car and all this done for 1000-1500 $ would it be easy to make that happen?

I don't know, but $400 CAD for a 92 Golf with 160,000km is a hell of a good deal, as long as the rust isn't too bad.

Any pics?
