Angry Broken Key headache !!!!!!

HI guys , I have a 1989 S-10 and the key broke off in the ignition also the little ears on the switch have broken due to sub zero weather . I have a new key cylinder to install and am having trouble figuring out how to (1) Get the old one out and (2) , install the new one , I know it isn't complicated but i have no book or any help in my town ( to far away from civalization ! ) PLEASE HEEEEEEEEEELLLPPP !!!

if u dont live in town or whatever, maybe you can just keep the old key in there, and go on whenever u want to, but if you do that, theres always the possibility of someone stealing it

can't leave old key in it as the cold weather makes the grease inside it to stiff and it is not my personal veh , it;s my fiance's and she needs it fixed ASAP ! Am serious , PLEASE HELP !!!!!!!!! Thanks
