What mid-size truck should I buy?

OK here is the deal. I'm gonna get my license soon and I'm looking to buy a truck to learn to drive in. Used or new doesnt matter, but preferrably I would want one for around $16,000 or lower. I'm not gonna lie to you guys, I dont really know jack squat about cars. My family has just never been a real die hard car family I guess. I do know the basics of course, but I'm not very knowledgeable. So I wanted to ask some people in the know; what would be the best mid-size truck for my buck? I'm leaning towards a Nissan Frontier, but I'm open to any and all options. Thanks in advance for your help!!

And when I say learn to drive in I mean to gain experience in driving. I know how to drive I just want to be comfortable with the truck I'll be driving once I get my license.

Could you narrow it down a bit?...Like what do you need it for, are you planning on modification?, etc...

I'd suggest a Ranger right now though...or a Dodge Ram 1500

I don't need it for much except for driving to work and school. It won't be needed for major towing or carrying or anything like that. And I will probably put a sound system in, even if it isn't real elaborate.

Get an S10 Extreme or a Sonoma. I have a couple of buddies with modified S10 Extreme's (Air ride, sounds, wheels) and let me tell you, those things look sexy as hell when they're dropped to the floor.

I say Ranger and to the people who suggested it...I love you lol j/p. (no gay jokes needed...little joke...NONE NEEDED lol)

I got a 93 Ranger with the 2.3 liter and a 5spd and its a perfect first truck, good handling (w/Yokohama Avid tires), peppy acceleration, not a speed demon but its fast enough, I assume your 15 or 16 so a Ranger would be perfect

I'd say either the Ranger or S10. Personally I like the S10 better (but the older years), but they are all good little trucks with a bunch of different options/combinations (auto/manual, engine size, ext cab/box, 2wd/4wd....).

Pick up a Dakota R/T, around 99'ish. 5.9L V8, that thing has got some balls. A little bit of work and those things are sweet as hell. Got a couple rolling around town with a 3 and 4 drop, 18" chromers, roll pans, dual exhaust, shaved, painted, and tinted. UNF.

You could pickup a slightly used crew cab Frontier S/C for that price probably (2002-2003 ish). Pretty fun, can get some power out of it too with the supercharger already on it.

Here's a few S/C Frontiers...
